Samuel Walker, junior designer at dpa lighting Consultants, currently studying architecture at Coventry university; with an architectural background heavily focused towards eliminating light pollution in our cities.
Most recently, his research and design approach were recognised by industry leaders through celebrating darkness; learning from nocturnal species, this ideology contributed towards him winning the Jonathan Speirs Award. Samuel was featured in magazines such as A1 lighting and Arc Magazine following the award.
Samuel has gained various experiences within the architectural field with the likes of Hawkins Brown. Maintaining a mentor/mentee relationship with the architectural designer, writer, lecturer, and Co-Founder of POoR collective Shawn Adams, Samuel has absorbed a high amount of knowledge and insights into the design world.
Furthermore, Samuel has an earth science-driven educational background with A levels in Geography and Geology and has high levels of ambition to develop various rewilding projects across the UK.
“Samuel is an incredibly passionate and hard-working student. From the first time I spoke to Samuel, he came across as extremely motivated, talented, and ambitious. Intelligent and diligent it was evident that his personal experience was such that studying architecture would be a massive achievement for him.
His curiosity showed me that his interest in design goes far beyond his current educational and work-related experience as it has shaped his views on life.
During my time as Samuel’s mentor, I have seen him grow both personally and professionally and push beyond his limits. Each time I speak to Samuel he has shown high levels of enthusiasm, commitment, and eagerness to learn. He is an inspiration to many young designers and I am excited to see what he goes on to do next”.
